Be holy for God our Father is holy Part 2
There are four scriptures from the old testament that sets the tone for our series, when God commandment for his people to be holy as he is holy. These four scriptures comes from: Leviticus 11:44-45, 19:2, and 20:7. There is ONLY one scripture that comes from the new testament that reiterates this commandment which is 1 Peter 1:16. In the book of Leviticus beginning at verse 44 the commandment was given and in verse 45 it was reiterated. When we get to chapter 19 verse 2 God confirms it and in chapter 20 verse 7 it is bonded. Make no mistakes about this commandment given by God via his holy servant Moses or confusion of what God has commanded his people. Let me me say it as well from Leviticus 11:44b. And I quote "for ye shall be holy; for I am holy." is that clear enough? In the new testament, the book of 1 Peter 1:16 echoes the same commandment to the Church but in order to clear up any lingering doubts in our minds we are going to look at verses 13 through 15. In verse 13 Peter tells them to get their minds right. He follows it up in verse 14 by telling them to be obedient as God's children and to not revert back to being the children disobedience when they were in the world not knowing any better. In Verse 15 he lets them know what God's expectations were of them being His children and in what way that expectation was to be meet on their behalf and finally he capped it of by telling them this commandment has been already been established. So when God commands us to be holy because he is holy this is what he meant. Holy - Being holy is to live our lives as God's people free from sin. To be sinless, blameless, upright, in our behavior and in everything that we do and say as well as in all of our thoughts. We are to be pure and sinless physically, mentally, and morally. Our lives is to reflect the nature, person, and character of God as well as our Lord Jesus Christ. My brothers and sisters that is what God means when he gave the commandment for us to be holy as he is holy.
