Laws of Marriage and Divorce Part 2
Welcome everyone and God bless you all in Christ Jesus Our Saviour. It has been already established in Genesis 2:24 that a legal marital relationship is between ONE MAN and ONE WOMAN. Next, the word adultery will be defined before we continue on in this series. Adultery is defined by Webster's Dictionary as voluntary sexual intercourse that has occurred between a married person and a partner other than their lawful spouse. However, in Matthew 5:27-28 Jesus Christ defines this word. He starts off by reminding us that in both Exodus 20:14 and in Deuteronomy 5:18 we were commanded by God NOT to have sexual intercourse with anyone other than our legal spouse. "Thou shalt not comitt adultery" Matthew 5:27. In Matthew 5:28 Jesus not only expounds further on this word but he gives us the source to where this evil act begins. He says in Matthew 5:28 "But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. KJV
- Adultery is when either a man or a woman has sexual intercourse with another person other than their legal spouse or lust after another person with evil thoughts, desires, or imaginations with that person In their hearts.
- Proverbs 3:7- "Do not be wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD and depart from evil." KJV
Lastly, the act of adultery is never committed by accident or the age old exscuse "it just happened." Adultery is a voluntary act with criminal intentions in the eyes of God and the supreme court of heaven gave the verdict of gulity, punishable by death both spiritually and physically. Spiritually because sin separates us from God and physically because one could lose their very life by an angry spouse with vengeance in their heart. Please read the following scriptures: Leviticus 18:20, 20:10, Deuteronomy 22:22, and Proverbs 6:32-34. Next week we will begin to look at adultery in it's relationship to the laws of marriage and divorce. God bless you all in everything in Christ Jesus Our Lord.
